Cave Lodge is a few hundred metres upstream from Tham Lod, the most famous cave in the region. We enjoy one of the best (coolest) climates and cleanest environments in Thailand.
To reach us
Take a minibus 4 hours from Chiang Mai Arcade Bus Station to Mae Hong Son via Pai and Soppong/Pang Mapha, GET OFF IN SOPPONG (Pang Mapha) and get a motorbike taxi 8 km to Cave Lodge in Ban Tham. They are in front of the 7/11. You can book minibus tickets online at premprachatransports.com/ticket-en/ For self-drive cars allow 5 hours and small bikes up to 6 hours from Chiang Mai. You can also catch a bus from Mae Hong Son to Pang Mapha, less than 2 hours or from Pai to Pang Mapha, 1 hour. There are flights to MHS and Pai, and you can rent cheap bikes in Pai, then it is just over an hour over the mountain…check google maps.
Guests also access the Lodge by rented motorbike, but be careful on the mountain roads, especially in the wet season, cars or pickup trucks can be hired from companies like North Wheels, Budget, Journey etc. in Chiang Mai or bicycles – several guests have ridden from Europe!. There are many excellent ‘off road’ routes near us, see GT-Rider.com for all the best motorcycling info. You can buy a copy GT-Riders excellent Mae Hong Son Loop Map in Chiang Mai or Pai. One guy came from Pai on roller skates! You can also trek here from Pai, about 3-4 days over the mountain…do not try this alone!. During the dry season there is a 100km dirt road near the border, over 1600m high, north from the Lodge to Pai: off-road bikes only, fill up your tank, don’t go alone!
If you are a group and want to hire one or more mini-vans with drivers then Mr Meechai in Chaing Mai has modern well-maintained vans with excellent drivers at very competitive rates. Phone 0819619547. He speaks Thai and English.
